Open Check (Tab)
A bill still accumulating items, not yet settled.
An open check is a bill that remains active while a guest keeps ordering, whether that is a bar tab or a table mid-service. Unclosed checks at end of day are one of the most common causes of a POS total disagreeing with the bank, because items were rung but never settled. Reviewing open checks before closing out is a basic nightly control.
