An AI operating partner you can ask about your own numbers

Type a plain-English question about sales, labor, food cost, or menu performance and get a specific answer grounded in your live data — on Pro and up.

Opero's AI Operating Partner lets owners ask plain-English questions about their restaurant's numbers and get answers grounded in live sales, labor, and food-cost data. Included on Pro and Enterprise.

Every owner has the same late-night question: how did we actually do, and where is the money leaking? The usual way to answer it is to open three reports, export two of them, and reconcile the numbers in your head. Opero's AI Operating Partner flips that around. You type the question the way you'd say it out loud — 'where is my margin slipping?', 'which menu items make the most money?', 'is labor on target this week?' — and it answers in plain English, grounded in your restaurant's live numbers, with the exact metrics it leaned on shown right next to the answer. It's the interactive Q&A partner, available on Pro and up.

Recommendations vs. the Operating Partner

Growth gives you automatic AI recommendations — a ready-made to-do list Opero surfaces on the Admin hub. Pro adds the interactive Operating Partner: instead of only reading what Opero flagged, you ask your own questions and get answers back. Same underlying data, two ways to use it.

Ask in plain English, answer from your live numbers

The ask box is exactly what it sounds like: a place to type a question about your business. There's no query language and no report to configure. When you send a question, Opero pulls your account's current operating snapshot — aggregated server-side from the same spine your POS, kitchen, inventory, and payments already run on — and answers against it. The numbers the partner reasons over come from your account, not from anything the page hands it, so a question can't be pointed at someone else's data and the answer reflects what's really happening in your restaurant.

  • Type the question naturally — press Enter to send, Shift+Enter for a new line
  • Start from a suggested prompt like 'How did sales look, and where is my margin leaking?' or 'Is my labor cost on target this week?'
  • Answers are grounded in your live snapshot: net sales, order count, average ticket, labor % against target, food cost % against target, prime cost, your top and slow movers, and projected weekly profit
  • Each ask is its own exchange, newest on top, so you can work a question and its follow-ups without losing the thread

You can see the numbers behind every answer

An answer you can't check is just an opinion. Every reply from the Operating Partner shows the specific metrics it cited — labeled chips like 'Net sales', 'Labor %', or 'Food cost %' with the actual values — so you can see the evidence rather than take the narrative on faith. Each answer also carries a confidence level, shown plainly as High, Medium, or Low, so you know how firmly the partner is standing behind what it said before you act on it.

  • Cited-metric chips make the evidence visible — the answer and the numbers that produced it sit side by side
  • A High / Medium / Low confidence label sets expectations honestly instead of pretending every read is certain
  • Suggested follow-up questions appear under each answer — one tap to go deeper, like 'What should I prep for Friday?' or 'Which item should I raise prices on?'
  • If you're on a fresh account without live sales yet, answers run on sample data and say so, with a nudge to connect your POS for live answers

It answers and suggests — it doesn't act for you

The Operating Partner is a decision aid, and it's deliberate about staying in that lane. It reads your numbers, explains what it sees, cites the metrics, and offers follow-up questions and directions worth looking at. It does not reach into your restaurant and change anything — it won't cut a shift, reprice a dish, or place an order on its own. You stay in the chair; the partner just makes sure you're deciding with the real numbers in front of you instead of a hunch.

Think of it as the seasoned operator you'd want to hand your numbers to for a second read — quick, specific, and always pointing at the evidence — not an autopilot you hand the keys to.

Built to be trustworthy under the hood

Because it's wired into your live account, the Operating Partner is built with the guardrails that implies. Questions are limited to managers and owners on the account, and the metrics are always aggregated from your own tenant-isolated data. Each ask runs one bounded AI call against a usage cap, so the feature can't be run up into a surprise, and if the model is ever slow or returns something it shouldn't, Opero falls back to a deterministic read of the same numbers rather than failing on you. The conversation itself is ephemeral — it lives in your session while you work and isn't stored afterward.

  • Manager- and owner-gated, with your numbers scoped to your own account only
  • One budget-guarded AI call per question, with a per-account limit so usage stays predictable
  • A deterministic fallback that reads the same live metrics, so you always get a grounded answer
  • An ephemeral thread — ask freely; nothing from the conversation is kept

Where it fits in your plan

Included on Pro and up

The interactive AI Operating Partner is part of the Pro plan — $499 per location per month, month-to-month — and Enterprise. Growth ($249) includes automatic AI recommendations; Pro adds the ability to ask your own questions. As with everything in Opero, it runs on the tablets you already own at one per-location price, with no separate analytics add-on.

If you're already reading Opero's AI recommendations on Growth and finding yourself wanting to ask a follow-up the list didn't cover, that's exactly the gap the Operating Partner fills. Moving up to Pro turns the one-way feed of suggestions into a conversation with your own data.

Ask your restaurant's numbers the questions you actually have — the AI Operating Partner is included on Pro.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from Opero's AI recommendations?
AI recommendations, included on Growth and up, are a ready-made to-do list Opero surfaces automatically on the Admin hub — you read what it flagged. The AI Operating Partner, on Pro and up, is interactive: you type your own plain-English questions about your numbers and get answers back, with the metrics it used and a confidence level shown alongside. Same underlying live data; the partner lets you drive.
What can I actually ask it?
Anything about how your restaurant is running that your operating data can speak to — for example, how sales looked and where margin is leaking, which menu items make the most money, whether labor cost is on target this week, or what to prep for the weekend. It answers using your live snapshot: net sales, orders, average ticket, labor and food cost against their targets, prime cost, your top and slow movers, and projected weekly profit. Each answer also offers follow-up questions you can tap to dig deeper.
Does it make changes to my restaurant for me?
No. The Operating Partner is a decision aid — it reads your numbers, explains what it sees, cites the metrics behind the answer, and suggests directions to look. It does not take actions on its own: it won't adjust a schedule, change a price, or place an order. You make the calls; it just makes sure you're deciding with the real numbers in front of you.
Where do the numbers come from, and are they mine only?
They're aggregated server-side from your own account, on the same platform your POS, kitchen, inventory, and payments already run on. The metrics are scoped to your tenant — the page never hands the AI someone else's data or lets a question be pointed at another account. On a brand-new account without live sales, it runs on sample data and tells you so, with a prompt to connect your POS for live answers.
Is my conversation saved, and who can use it?
The thread is ephemeral — it lives in your session while you work and isn't stored afterward. Access is limited to owners and managers on the account, and each question runs one budget-guarded AI call against a usage cap, so the feature stays predictable and can't be run up unexpectedly.
Which plan includes the AI Operating Partner?
It's included on Pro — $499 per location per month, month-to-month — and Enterprise. Growth ($249) includes automatic AI recommendations; Pro adds the interactive Q&A partner on top. There's no separate analytics fee, and it runs on the tablets you already own at Opero's single per-location price.
